Developing an evidence base to support protocols for safeguarding online

Safeguarding is an essential part of all health services, but is particularly important for young people and vultnerable adults who use sexual health services. However there is very little evidence on best practice for safeguarding online.

We are therefore summarising the existing evidence base and adding to it by interviewing national experts on this topic. This work will underpin the development of safeguarding protcols for SH24.

Local young people are contributing to this work by being present at the interviews and contributing their own questions. We have worked with a group of young people from local schools, introducing them to the work of sexual health clinics and facilitating a discussion of the safeguarding work that is an essential part of this service. Based on these discussions they devised their own questions for the expert interviews and will contribute to the analysis of the answers.
